After a good win over Hirwaun, the Ironsides came up against a well drilled strong Abercwmboi. The first points on the board went to the Home team with a breakaway try and poor defending around the fringes from the Ironsides.
However the remaining 30 minutes was dominated by the Ironsides, constantly looking at the blind. However a few pick and go's seen the first points on the board with Gareth Lewis going over. The momentum continued and not long after Adam Sturdy made his way over with the Ironsides going in at Half Time 10-5 up as Jack Cullen was unable to convert with the boot.
The Second Half started with Abercwmboi making some changes in the pack and backline and the changes told as the Ironsides were on the back foot for sometime and Abercwmboi scored two tries through their pack.
The final 20 minutes seen the Ironsides get a second win and again began to start driving the home pack of their own scrums and making some hard yards in the loose. Jordan Davies continued his try scoring streak with a kick through and touchdown in the corner a fine effort.
The win was not to be as the Ironsides were denied at the final whistle as they were held up on the line.
Overall a good solid performance against a strong team with loads of positives to be taken, however some key areas to work on this week and build on ready for the season opener against Oakdale.
Our next game is at Markham RFC on the 24.08.2017.
